If you are one of those that waits until the last minute to get ready for the coming season, you have plenty of company. Would you like to change that habit? Below is a list of tips to help you get the most play time for the summer. PS....you can apply these tips to any season! You're welcome!
Store the winter items - but first:
toss clothing, accessories, that are in poor condition and donate the things you no longer wear (or add them to a yard sale)
Utilize vacuum-sealed bags to store or use a spare closet.
Exchange winter blankets and bedding for lightweight summer bedding
Clean and store your play toys (ski's, etc.)
Spring clean (inside):
Besides the obvious, dust blinds & ceiling fans - don't forget to change the fan rotation!
Clean appliances
Clean and toss expired foods from pantry
Clean out refrigerator/freezer
Check the A/C filter and replace if necessary.
Rotate your mattresses (I do this on Jan 1 and June 1)
Check smoke/Co2 alarm batteries
Clean under sinks and organize
Go through medicine cabinet and take expired medications to nearest donation site
Outside:
Clean out garage - have a yard sale!
Clean & gas up lawn mower and other yard tools
Clean porch, deck, gutters, patio furniture
Refresh - the fun part!
Get out those summer clothes and items out
Move furniture around for a different look
Add new decor items (Dollar Tree is my go to!), and toss or donate the outdated items
Oh, the selection of flowers and plants! Nothing says "home" better
Don't forget the patio/deck decor
Check summer toys and clean or repair as needed
I realize this list looks overwhelming, but the good thing is that you don't have to do it all at once. And if you have a significant other, ask for help! The easiest way I find to tackle it is to focus on one room at a time. More can be added to this list, but these tips shouldn't be ignored. May is the month I choose to get this done, spending 2-3 hours each week.
Now go enjoy the summer guilt free!
